On April 30, 2007, she married Spanish public relations executive Nicolas Vallejo Najera "Colate" in Xcaret, a Mexican eco-tourism park on the Mayan Riviera, after finding out that she wasn't going to be able to marry her long lost love (Adolfo Cordero). She also afirms saying she has nothing to go back to El Paso, TX.

On October 2007, Paulina and her husband, "Colate", were denied permanent residence status in the U.S.A. after failing drug tests. This led Mexican media wags to joke that she had changed from "La Chica Dorada" (The Golden Girl) to "La Chica Drogada" (The Drugged Girl). The case is on appeal and has caused backlash on the media, with as yet unknown effects on her public image. It is possible that this has just been a rumor by the press but we are still not sure. She has also been sued for wearing the Mexican flag but swears she only intended it as a sign of respect for her country.
